The “Why”

In one word: obedience. VBM exists in response to the Lord’s call on Carmen’s heart to live on mission for Him. Jesus left His heavenly home, emptied Himself, and became a servant—not only to show us how to live, but because that’s who He is. By coming to this broken world to love and restore us, He acted in accordance with His nature. Those who trust in Him for salvation receive that same servant nature and are called to embody it.

God has gifted Carmen with a compassionate heart for vulnerable populations: orphans, widows, and prisoners. Through His grace, she has had the opportunity to serve as an ESL teacher at an orphanage, a mentor at a women’s prison, a probation officer, and a cherished friend to her widowed neighbor.

Carmen seeks to deepen her understanding and discernment of how the Lord is guiding her to fulfill her calling to serve these special populations.

VBM’s inaugural trip to Roatan in 2025 marks a significant step in a lifelong journey to follow Jesus and live out His servant nature.
