Your Kingdom Come
I’ve been diving into When Helping Hurts by Steve Corbett and Brian Fikkert, and it’s deepened my understanding of a concept I’ve previously grasped only intellectually: as followers of Christ, we are called to participate in the prayer, “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
The brokenness of this world, stemming from the fall and sin, can be overwhelming. Yet, acknowledging that this isn’t how things were meant to be brings me comfort. God created the world “good,” and it was humanity’s choice of pride and self-interest that introduced sin into our reality.
Despite this, God has ignited a glorious plan for redemption—restoring our relationships with Him, ourselves, others, and all of creation. In His sovereign, perfect timing, He is working to restore His Kingdom to the way He intended from the beginning.
This is incredible news! What’s even more awe-inspiring is that we are invited to actively participate in this restoration. We’re called to partner with Him—bringing order to chaos, peace to turmoil, and healing to pain. God is actively establishing His Kingdom on earth, and we are His workers who help bring this about—if we allow Him to use us!
I read part of Esther this morning and was struck by how her cousin urged her to make a choice—God would bring relief and deliverance to His people with or without her involvement. She had to decide whether she wanted to be part of that divine plan.
Each of us are faced with that same choice. Will we engage in God’s mission to bring His Kingdom to earth, or will we remain part of the chaos?
